January 30, 2018 will go down in history as a most significant date for Myanmar’s power sector for many years to come. At a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, the Myanmar Government green-lighted four power projects, that when implemented, would double the country’s power generation capacity over the next four years.  Three of the four projects, located at the Kan Pauk in the Tanintharyi region, Mee Laung Gyaing in the Ayeyarwady region, and Ahlone in the Yangon region, are projects pertaining to liquefied natural gas. The fourth project, which involves natural gas from the Shwe field, will be carried out at Kyaukphyu in the Rakhine State.

In a long interview with the state media, the Union Minister for Electricity and Energy, U Win Khaing outlined further the ministry’s bold plan to meet the country’s rapidly growing power needs.  Myanmar currently generates a total of 3,189 MW of electricity through 17 hydropower plants and 15 natural gas plants across the country. According to Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy, with the country’s electricity consumption on the rise, Myanmar will require about 6,000 MW of electricity by 2020-2021.
Supporting the Government’s vision to upgrade Myanmar’s domestic energy mix, MYANENERGY 2018 – Myanmar’s No.1 International Power & Electrical Engineering Show is back again, even bigger and better, to present opportunities that will help develop the country’s energy infrastructure.

Expecting over 250 international brands with country Pavilions representing China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, this timely business-to-business tradeshow will showcase the latest solutions, equipment and technology, and also connect key figures from Government Ministries, city development councils with the hundreds of developers, architects, installers, and building and electrical contractors.
